Gayle Beebe is beginning his 18th year as president of Westmont College in Montecito California. He is a well-known author on the subject of leadership and he's brought experts including Doris Kearns Goodwin, David Brooks, the late Daniel Kahneman and others to campus for his annual forums and lectures. His new book, "The Crucibles that Shape Us: Navigating the Defining Issues of Leadership" explores the external and internal challenges that leaders can face. In Episode 2, host Henry Dubroff visits with Beebe on the current crisis in academia, on developing ways to foster constructive conversations on controversial issues and his vision for the future of Westmont. Their discussion is framed by his new book and his personal experiences in surviving the deadly Montecito debris flows and leading the campus through the COVID-19 pandemic.
